Post by Golditch on Sat 27 Aug 2016, 9:11 pm

Hi there fellow gold hunters,
I was wondering on what systems you my use out and about finding roads and tracks off grid? Been looking at hema hn7 and looks ok but wasn't sure if anything better or more sutable for what we use it for?

Cheers Golditch

Depending on what you require, I just create my off road tracks on google earth, convert them and then put them on my hemN7. I do the same with tenements from tengraph.
I know some people use a GPS connected to a laptop using google earth offline and some use Geomap.
I do believe their is a 4WD track outfit you can get to download onto a garmin hand held GPS but where you get it from I don't know.

Cheers

Ok thanks gentlemen, I have used the laptop with Google earth and geomaps . Works well when I get the bloody thing to talk to the Gps antenna!!
Can you use the Hema hn7 with overlays on it from DMP? Or do you need to still use the lappy ?

I think you might still have to use the laptop for overlays unless you mean showing tenements. If you go into the hema website, there is section of FAQ and you might find something in there about it.

Hema HN7 or sinilar

Post by Ian226 on Wed 31 Aug 2016, 10:25 am

Hi, I am using the HN7 and using the track function to display the leases. There is an excellent tuition videos on how to load these onto your HN7 by Aussie Bloke Prospector on Youtube, this is where I picked it up from.

It's horses for courses but have always found OziExplorer more detailed.
Comparisons here with Mt Stirling being the centre point for example.

You can get a version of this map for the hema, I think it's called the hema explorer 150k and it cost me $75
only problem is, a lot of it is grey background.

I use a good one called PDF Maps on my IPAD and its a ripper
Free download of maps and can tell you GPS co-ordinates in addition to detailed mapping.
Be aware that being PDF based you need to download each page (free). That said, the maps can be accessed off line and used as additional mapping resource.
Check it out and not much to be disappointed about
cheers
