I'm not absolutely sure but the 4x4 show is on again in Perth around the first week of Nov if there is anyone interested in maybe picking up a bargain or two..

We went two years back when we were planning the new bus. It was the first show we'd been to for years and I got sucked in a bit. I bought a nice little two element induction cooker. It works well but draws too much power to do any amount of cooking on battery power. It's now just another thing stored on the shelf. Also got a nice little carbon water filter but when I got it home and took a look it couldn't handle the water flow we needed so ended up giving it to my brother for his camper trailer. I was a bit blown away by the entry fee as well but it does bring you up to date on what's available out there.

Jim it seems to be very good. It's a 2004 ex-government with nearly 102,000km. The only problem I seem to have is the exhaust brake not working. You really miss it off road. On our bus we can idle through the rough stuff and it will sit on 750rpm up hill and down. I've just spent the last couple of days climbing around these Queensland hills and apart from the ride all's well. These things ride like a dray. I fitted airbags all round and decent shocks with super singles. Also mounted the big spare up front to move so weight onto the front axle. That fixed the ride and they are a super reliable truck.
This one came with a hydraulic PTO winch and a crane with an electric power pack. The crane and traybody will go if it ends up another camper but the winch will stay. We've never bogged but with the ground clearance we have being bogged will be a major problem.

Hi Sandgroper, it's all Isuzu NPS300 4WD with just a few suspension mods to help the ride. I just removed the tray body that had a hiab crane and built the bus body. Started with two big flat SSteel tanks that came off the Hummer roof rack. That gave me another 220L of fuel and 170L of water. The rims are Hummer too with centres I made to adapt to the Isuzu stud pattern. Took 3 months from start to what you see here. It never got finished becaus we got itchy feet. Each time we go home I do a bit more. It got the roof paint and overhead cabinets before the muster. Problem is finding the time. I'm rushing to get home to pack for Hawaii.
I spent yesterday travelling and today working my way up and down Nuggety Gully trying to work out how it got the name but I came up blank.

Around $50,000 for used 4wd Isuzu and materials. Labour not included. That one has about 194,000km on it. This one I just picked up has 101,700km so will most likely sell that one and rebuild.

I doubt I'd swap the ATX as from what I've heard the SDC's not perfect. The ATX is very nice to use and perhaps a little more versatile with various coils and it appears as tough as nails. It runs nicely for two to three days without recharge and has proven it can find deep gold although not as small as the SDC.
I wouldn't mind the SDC for Sandra if I could get her into a harness that would support the weight enough that she could handle it. She likes the ATX but can't swing it for long and there's not much difference in the weight of the two machines.
I've had a play in three states this week with nothing to show for it.

I have to get home before the list of urgent jobs gets too long. I know it's already too long but every day it gets bigger.
The problem is I've not spent enough time each place to work out where to find it. Everything is so much different to WA and with a lot more vegetation and topsoil. Need more time to tap into local knowledge.

Gday Moneybox
My mate bought the SDC for his wife and she had an issue with the weight. He bought her the new Minelab harness, bunjee and shaft clip and that works perfectly for her. One of them would probably work with your ATX as well. Worth a shot I reckon if it keeps the bride interested in the hobby.

Thanks Brett I'll take a look but too busy right now. We're flying out to Hawaii on 7th and she's got a list of jobs for me to knock off before the house sitters arrive Wink
